Ski Day Report

It's Memorial Day Weekend?

Snowbird received about 2 feet of snow during the week. Although the powder had mostly degraded to hardened chunks of spring slop off piste, the groomers were in awesome shape and there were pockets of excellent (albeit thick) powder in some places. The upper mountain's groomers actually had mid-winter snow conditions.

I had intended to meet Steve at the 6200 South park and ride, but I overslept, so I arrived about a half hour late and missed him. We never did meet up, unfortunately.

It was chilly at the mountain--high-40s at the base and 30s near the summit. My first run was a good warm-up. I took my time and tested out the conditions. My second run, however, I ripped down the mountain carving turns of all shapes. Unfortunately, my boots made my feet hurt, as usual. I did make an adjustment that, I think, helped, but not enough. Today I buckled my top buckles at the 3rd notch, instead of the 4th and/or 5th. That helped my calves hurt less, and it seemed to give me better ability to articulate my turns.

It looks like Snowbird will be able to stay open longer because of the snow this week, which is good because I'm enjoying my ski days again (despite the pain caused by my stupid boots).
